A COUNCILLOR has been replaced on the Enfield cabinet in a mini-reshuffle by Labour a year after seizing power.
Councillor Chaudhury Anwar MBE has been dropped from his brief in charge of community cohesion and capacity building in the third sector in the shake-up.
The Ponders End representative has been replaced by Clr Christine Hamilton, who takes charge of the newly-created Community Wellbeing and Public Health portfolio.
Her promotion from vice chairman of the health scrutiny committee comes at a crucial time for healthcare in the borough, as the future of Chase Farm Hospital services remain in limbo and radical reforms of the NHS are under discussion.
Council leader Doug Taylor said the reshuffle would “strengthen a winning team” and added: “There is still a long way to go. However, Christine's new post reflects our commitment to improve people's quality of lives as well as our determination to tackle crime and tackle Enfield's huge public health inequalities."
The new brief includes much of Cllr Anwar's responsibilities, including the voluntary sector and helping deliver the new Residents Priority Fund.
The rest of the cabinet remains unchanged in the reshuffle.
