STUDENTS at an Enfield school have won £3,000 for a women's charity through a special project.
Year 9 students from Chace Community School in Churchbury Lane worked in groups to research the needs of local charities, and a presentation about Enfield Women's Centre bagged the money.
The project was part of the Youth Philanthropy Initiative, an international programme that seeks to teach young people about the impact they can have on their community.
Assistant headteacher Chris Maunder said: "The students worked really hard and gained valuable experience throughout the project and were inspired by the work these charities do locally.
“It has been an extremely worthwhile project and the school looks forward to continuing this work in and with the community and being involved in this project next year.”
The winning presentation saw the children perform a play about a women suffering domestic abuse before they explained what the charity does and how vital the money would be.
The centre in Derby Road provides help, advice and counselling for women in the borough.
Mr Maunder added several groups that took part in the project wanted to try and raise money for their chosen charity even though they did not win the £3,000.
