EUROVISION champion and Palmers Green resident Nigar Jamal has described the win as “a dream come true”.
The mother-of-two, who moved to London six years ago with her husband, Luke, and two daughters, Jasmine and Saida, is one half of Azerbaijan's winning entry Ell/Nikki.
The 30-year-old Spurs fan was born in Baku and splits her time between London and the Azerbaijan capital.
She said: “I'd never been singer before. I was a housewife and mother of two children and my biggest dream was to represent my country at the Eurovision Song Contest.
“And my dream came true. I'm so happy about that – I can't believe that six months ago I was a housewife and now I'm a winner of Eurovision.”
Mrs Jamal began to sing at five years old in a children's band, and continued to perform as a teenager, taking part in Azerbaijan's nationwide talent competition.
But despite her success, she decided to study for an economics degree instead, before meeting her husband and moving to north London.
Mrs Jamal had wanted to enter Eurovision since being inspired by Russian singer Alsu who came second in the contest in 2000, but as Azerbaijan did not enter the competition until 2008, she gave up hope.
But last year she decided to return to Baku to enter her country's Eurovision selection competition, where she was paired with partner Eldar Gasimov.
More than 120 million TV viewers tuned in for Saturday’s final in Düsseldorf, Germany. Ell/Nikki took 221 points in the annual song-fest and romped to victory, beating off competition from the UK entry, performed by Blue, and Jedward for Ireland.
