FOOTBALLERS at an Enfield college have won a competition to find the country's best young players.
Students at the football academy of the College of Haringey, Enfield and North East London won the Under-19 England Colleges Cup earlier this month.
And four of the players – Bradley Fraser, Jordan Lawal, Charlie Hunter and Ruddock Yala – earned a call-up to the England College's under-19s team, marking them out as possible stars of the future.
Mr Fraser, captain of the side, said: “It has been a great experience playing in the English Colleges National Cup competition this season and I and all the players have enjoyed it.
“It was the best feeling ever lifting the trophy for the club and the college.”
The academy is a partnership with Borehamwood Football Club and lets students play semi-professional football while studying for a sports or construction qualification at the college's Enfield campus in Hertford Road.
Due to high demand, the academy is expanding next year and trials are ongoing.
The next trials are at Borehamwood Football Club's Meadow Park ground in Broughinge Road on May 25 and July 5, and at the college on June 2 and July 15.
