A SPURS striker visited a coaching session at a football team for people with learning difficulties last Friday.
England international Jermain Defoe took part in the coaching session at the Radiomarathon Centre in Turkey Street as part of the Special Olympics European Football Week.
The initiative – called United Football – brings together footballers with and without learning difficulties to try and break down social barriers, and is a partnership between the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation and Special Olympics Great Britain.
Mr Defoe, who joined the players for a kickaround, said: “Unified Football is a great idea and something that a lot of people don’t know about.
“But our foundation is clearly working hard with Special Olympics to get more people involved and give people with learning disabilities more chances to play football.”
The club has been working for the past year to set up the teams across London, with around 125 athletes signed up so far.
