A YOUNG writer from Enfield has beaten competition from across the country to win a prize for a report on human rights.
Isabella French, 11, scooped Amnesty International’s Young Human Rights Reporter of the Year prize for her work on child labour.
The Merryhills Primary School pupil said she was “ecstatic” when she heard she had been chosen as the winner, and added: “There are no words to describe it.”
Isabella triumphed in the Upper Primary category of the annual competition, and was invited with other winners and runners up to presentation ceremony at Amnesty International's headquarters in Shoreditch.
Kate Allen, director of Amnesty International UK, said: “It’s been a fantastic competition and we’re proud to be encouraging the next generation of human rights journalists.
“Reporters play a vital role in shining a spotlight on the appalling human rights abuses that happen every day across the globe – issues that Amnesty frequently campaigns upon.
“And hopefully the entrants into the Young Human Rights Reporter of the Year can take up that mantle in the years ahead.”
