As a professional driver of some 35 years, I am concerned about the impending opening of the new pedestrian crossing at the junction of Winston Churchill Way and the A10 and close to Park Plaza. This has been designed for safer crossing especially for those attending the newly opened St Mary’s school.
We all know about the £1 million spent on the nearby bridge spanning the A10 but the cheaper alternative offered at the nearby junction, in my view, spells a recipe for disaster.
What with urgent commuter traffic and motorists still in M25 mode approaching and then seeking to exit this roundabout as swiftly as possible and distracted pupils messing with friends, listening to iPods or phones, put this all in the mix at this busy junction at rush hour and it doesn’t bear thinking about. I fear this already notorious road could claim more victims.
Surely even News International could step in to help correct this folly and contribute to the community with the construction of a pedestrian and wheelchair friendly underpass?
