TOTTENHAM school pupils scooped the top prize in the inaugural drama awards hosted by Eastenders actor Rudolph Walker OBE.
Newly revamped Millfield Theatre in Edmonton provided the venue for the finale on Sunday, May 22, when seven schools from Enfield, Haringey and Waltham Forest competed to be named Best Play.
The project challenged pupils to develop their own piece of original drama, inspired and assisted by Rudolph, who plays Patrick Trueman on the BBC 1 soap, organiser Mervin Cato, and a host of celebrity mentors.
The winning project, called “The Rudolph Walker Project”, was produced by pupils from Northumberland Park Community School.
Rudolph was the first black actor to appear in a major British TV series when he starred as Bill in Love Thy Neighbour.
Over the course of his career, he has grown in stature as an actor and become a mentor of up-and-coming talent, helping many young black actors break into the industry.
After a successful launch year in London, the drama awards are now set to expand to other parts of the UK and internationally.
