A TEACHER from Enfield is preparing to meet US President Barack Obama in Westminster tomorrow.
Yasmin Ali-Khan, head of media at Kingsmead School in Southbury Road, was selected after completing an exchange programme with a teacher in California last year, and will be in the audience for Mr Obama's speech at Westminster Hall tomorrow.
The president will address both houses of the UK parliament in the speech, an honour usually reserved for British monarchs.
Ms Ali-Khan said: “Last year I swapped my life, job and home with a woman in California as part of the Fullbright Programme and had an amazing experience.
“I kept in touch with the programme and talked to new teachers about what it was like living out there.
“So when they said they had some places in the audience tomorrow I was quite excited, and now I'm really looking forward to it.”
After listening to the president's speech, Ms Ali-Khan will join a select few for a meet-and-greet – where she hopes to speak to him.
She spent a year at La Colina Junior High School in Santa Barbara, California, as part of the programme which seeks to promote America abroad – one of the purposes of Mr Obama's current European tour.
She added: “The exchange programme was fantastic so this is just the icing on the cake really.”
The president arrived in London last night and will hold talks with Prime Minister David Cameron before making his speech tomorrow.
