A FURIOUS father has hit out at an Enfield school after his son was injured when a skipping rope was tied round his neck and pulled from both ends.
Panos Andidorou said he was “disgusted” after his son was left with bruising round his neck and a cut to the eye, and claimed people who saw the incident on Thursday told him his son was “going purple and choking”.
He hit out at Bush Hill Park Primary School's response to the lunchtime incident, criticising it for stripping the two boys responsible of playtimes rather than suspending them.
He said: “My son was assaulted on school grounds, and we feel he is lucky to be with us.
“He is not good at all, he's in a right state, because this was not run-of-the-mill kids playing, it's beyond that if you ask me.
“We as parents have the right to know that our children are safe, and the school's reaction has not been good enough.”
Mr Andidorou said, despite the incident happening at lunchtime, staff at the school waited until the end of the day to tell him what had happened.
He said: “I am annoyed, because when I asked why I wasn't called immediately after this incident, they said it was because my son didn't black out and he was fine.”
Mr Andidorou said the teacher who told him about the incident was “nearly in tears”, but accused the senior management at the school, in Main Avenue, of not taking it seriously enough.
The school, when contacted by the Enfield Independent, initially suggested it was the “result of playfulness”, and said there was no malice intended or signs of injuries.
It did say the boys involved had been spoken to, and confirmed the two culprits had been punished by being “deprived of their school treats”.
However, Mr Andidorou met with the headteacher of the school yesterday with photos of the injuries suffered by his son, and the school has now said it is investigating the incident further.
