A HOUSING association and a construction firm have been appointed to carry out major regeneration work on the Ladderswood Estate.

Essex-based firm Mulalley has been given the task of delivering the £80m building programme of 491 new homes, a community centre, and more than 3,000square metres of retail space.

The company is in partnership with the One Housing Group, which already manages more than 12,000 homes across London.

Planning applications are now being drawn up for the redevelopment, starting with the site of the former Sir John Lawrence pub, with a view to building work starting in 2012.

Councillor Del Goddard, who is in charge of regeneration at Enfield Council and oversaw the appointment of Mulalley and One Housing, said this was “an important milestone” for the flagship project.

He added: “We are committed to improving the quality of life for residents and businesses and this will be achieved by creating a sustainable new community where people will want to live, work and enjoy.”

It is hoped the first new homes will be ready for residents to move into in 2014.
