A COMMONWEALTH Games gold medallist was in Enfield this week to fire the starting gun at a charity run.
Montell Douglas, who won a 4x100m relay gold in India last year, was at the start line for the annual event at Middlesex University's Trent Park campus in Bramley Road on Wednesday evening.
More than 250 fundraisers took part in the 5 km fun run and 3 km walk, which raises money for the Save the Children charity.
Ms Douglas, who is studying for Masters degree in pyschology at the Hendon campus, said: “It’s great to see so many people from a wide age range getting involved in activities such as these, that will not only keep them fit and are fun, but also raise money for a worthwhile cause.
“There’s a fantastic atmosphere and some brilliant costumes this year, and I’m pleased to be part of it.”
Amongst the creative costumes was Middlesex student Nick Scott, who dressed as a jockey, complete with inflatable horse.
Mel Parker, head of sport at Middlesex University, said: “The Fun Run was a great success and it was pleasing to see that the turnout was up on last year.
“It’s always a good chance to engage with the local community as many walkers and runners from the area take part alongside the students, staff and families.”
