A POLITICIAN has hit out at sentencing for fly-tippers as part of a council campaign to clamp down on them.
Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for environment, branded magistrates' decision not to fine a New Southgate fly-tipper as “pathetic” after investigators caught him dumping decorating materials.
Arkadiusz Rogalski, of Potters Bar, charged owners of a West London house £60 to clean up 16 sacks of carpet, underlay, wood and other rubbish – which he ditched in the Oakwood North Allotment Site on September 11 last year.
He was given a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £1,200 in costs at Enfield Magistrates' Court on May 12.
Cllr Bond said: “Issuing no fine to a fly-tipper who has abused Enfield’s environment is frankly pathetic and sends a feeble message to other would be 'enviro-criminals'.
“It’s an insult to all the hard work by our investigating officers and a slap in the face to the community.
“We will not give up in our war on fly-tippers. We are determined to keep Enfield among the cleanest boroughs in London and we will take every opportunity to press for the toughest sentences for the selfish criminals.”
