A NEW London-wide housing initiative has been set up by the largest social housing providers to allow tenants to move for work or health reasons more easily.
The g15 group owns 50,000 homes in the capital collectively and are aiming to make life easier for tenants by allowing them to register and bid online for properties in more suitable areas for them.
It is part of the Mayor of London’s plan to give social tenants more say in their housing, with each group providing around 5 per cent of their stock to the scheme in areas most in demand.
The scheme has drawn praise from David Orr, chief executive of the National Housing Federation.
He said: “Tasked with giving Londoners greater mobility and control over where they work, this g15-led group has really thought on its feet.
“This pilot project will be widely watched by both politicians and housing professionals as it rightly aims to show that housing can be a springboard as well as a safety net.
"Like the g15, the National Housing Federation has invested considerable resources in this project and shares a common determination to make it easier for Londoners to take full advantage when employment opportunities arise.”
