A SERIES of opera concerts for older people in Enfield will be taking place this summer.
The Connaught Opera Company has been given a £3,000 grant to perform ten concerts as part of the Enfield Festival.
The three-piece company, comprising singers Maria Arakie and Glenn Wilson and pianist Nicholas Bosworth, launched the concert series on Sunday, June 4, at the Dugdale Centre.
The opera company performs throughout the year and has been signed up for 70 concerts across London to help connect older people with the 2012 Olympic Games.
Ms Arakie said: “We are trying to get older people in touch with the Olympics through our concerts.
“Enfield has been marvellous enough to give us a grant for ten concerts, and the first one went extremely well.
“It was a lovely launch platform for the whole project.”
The next concert in Enfield is on Friday, June 24, at the Ruth Winston Centre in Palmers Green. For further information, go to http://www.connaughtopera.com.
The Enfield Festival encompasses a wide variety of events in the borough during the next four months.
The Enfield Independent will be covering many of the festival events, covering culture, leisure, sports, entertainment and the arts.
