THE headteacher of an outstanding Enfield school has been named in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Patricia Sowter has been made a Commander of the British Empire for her services to local and national education.

She is currently headteacher at Cuckoo Hall Academy, which has been been rated as “outstanding” by Ofsted and heralded by Education Secretary Michael Gove recently as a beacon of excellence.

The school has also had a bid accepted to set up a new Free School in Enfield.

The Birthday Honours, announced on Saturday, also included an MBE for Janet Fernau, founder and chairman of the Haemochromatosis Society for voluntary service to healthcare.
