ENGLISH Heritage is looking at ways to help efforts to preserve three areas of historical interest in Edmonton.
MP for Edmonton Andy Love invite the body's head of partnerships Nigel Barker to view All Saints Church and Edmonton Girls' Charity School, both in Church Street, and The Crescent in Hertford Road.
All three projects in need of preservation are struggling for support due to funding cuts, and Mr Love arranged the visit to find alternative solutions.
Mr Barker, on behalf of English Heritage, agreed to help members of the church seek out alternative funding for repairs to the tower and roof, and his staff will also help the school come up with a community use which preserves the heritage and is economically viable.
English Heritage is also looking at giving a grant to support the regeneration of The Crescent by Enfield Council and Newlon Housing Association.
Mr Love described Friday's visit at positive, and said: “Of course all of these buildings are on English Heritage’s radar, but given the cutbacks in grants as a result of the recession, we are having to look at more canny ways to ensure the preservation projects do go ahead.
“With the Council’s involvement I think we’ve agreed a very strong plan of action.
“There will be no overnight miracles but I am hopeful that all of these fantastic historical buildings will eventually be given a new lease of life and enjoyed for generations to come.”
