CHILDREN from Enfield have unveiled a road safety sign they designed to encourage motorists to slow down near their school.
Pupils at Southbury Primary School in Swansea Road created the sign as part of an Enfield Council initiative to enforce 20 mph zones around 13 schools in the borough.
Two of the eight zones have now been completed, with signs placed on roads around the buildings – after 86 per cent of residents who responded to a council consultation backed the idea.
Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for the environment, said: “Southbury’s new 20 mph zone is among the first of a new £1 million programme designed to make our streets safer for children.
“It’s fantastic the kids from Southbury got involved in designing the sign, and it says it all – slow down – speed can kill.”
The other seven zones in Ordnance Road, Wilbury Way, Grove Street, Brick Lane, Palmers Road, Eldon Road and Highfield Road are due to be completed by August.
