With respect to the piece in last week’s paper (“Walk on the wild side”, Enfield Independent, June 8), I would like to clarify my position regarding animal highways in Enfield.
Contrary to what the article says, it was never my intention to encourage the Council to study, much less introduce, animal highways in our borough, particularly at this time of great financial constraint.
I believe it is important to protect and promote biodiversity and have great sympathy for the opinions that constituents expressed in this regard at the Green Belt Forum, but there are much greater priorities at present, starting in the environment area, with waste management, road networks and energy costs.
