The council has just published its new rates for controlled parking zone (CPZ) parking tickets. Buried near the bottom is the introduction of a commuter rate.
This commuter rate lays to rest any claims that CPZs are about helping residents park near their own properties — the true reason is money.
With this change, and the proposed expansion of the Enfield Town CPZ, teachers and low-paid shop workers will be unable to park close to their places of employment, while rich city commuters will now have the pick of the parking places freed up.
Enfield Council should be ashamed of considering such regressive changes, much less proposing to introduce them.
