POLICE officers and firefighters visited an Enfield children's centre last week as part of a campaign to highlight child safety.
The event at Forest Children's Centre in Tramway Avenue on Wednesday gave toddlers the chance to climb aboard a fire engine and have lunch – all as part of Child Safety Week.
Outreach worker Jessica Waters said: “It went very well with 98 families attending and the fire brigade were excellent, providing the families with lots of information around fire safety in the home, while the kids enjoyed putting on the firemen's hats and jackets and climbing on board the fire engine and turning on the siren.
“The fire brigade and police all sat with the families and had lunch together – the children couldn't believe that they were having lunch with them.”
The campaign seeks to prevent accidents by creating safe environments in the home rather than telling them what not to do.
