POOL owners in Winchmore Hill have been accused of causing damage to a nearby park by draining chlorinated water.
Enfield Council is threatening to take “formal action” after evidence was found of private pools ad saunas being drained into Grovelands Park.
The Environment Agency has issued formal warning letters to residents in Broad Walk and Bourne Hill, and Councillor Chris Bond, cabinet member for environment, urged them to heed the advice.
He said: “We have evidence that some swimming pool owners have drainage pipes which are discharging chlorinated water into Grovelands Park.
"We want the co-operation of swimming pool owners before we consider formal action.
“We are a reasonable council but we cannot allow continuous damage to be caused to our beautiful parks."
It is illegal to drain contaminated water from your property without an Environmental Permit, the council said, and are looking for the guilty parties to take steps to rectify the problem.
