WOMEN who have lost relatives to cancer are training for a fundraising race later this month.
The team – who met on an entrepreneurial scheme in January – hope to raise more than £1,000 for Cancer Research by completing the Race for Life in Finsbury Park on July 24.
The group of seven businesswomen decided to support the charity after two of them lost their mothers to cancer and others lost friends to the disease.
One of the runners, Deborah Bailey, said: “I had always wanted to take part in the Race for Life after losing my mother in 2004, but never got round to it.
“The business scheme has enabled me to meet like-minded women and together we will all be racing on July 24 for a very worthwhile, needed and personal cause.”
The race is a 5 km women-only charity run that aims to gather one million fundraisers across the UK to take part in more than 300 events.
Marcia Green, whose mother died of breast cancer in 2006, said “Entering Race for Life has kick-started my commitment to exercise and a healthier life style and has the additional incentive of raising funds for a tremendous cause.”
