A COUNCIL inquiry will be held into the reasons behind rioting in the borough last month, it was agreed last night.
At a meeting of Enfield Council, it was unanimously agreed to set up a six-member panel to investigate the disorder in Enfield Town on August 6.
Looters attacked riot police and smashed shop windows in Church Street and side-streets, before fleeing the town centre to attack businesses in Ponders End and Edmonton.
The panel will aim to speak directly to those who took part in the violence, as well as the wider community.
Council leader Doug Taylor, said: “We were shocked and saddened by the violence we saw back in August and while Enfield was not as badly affected as other boroughs, our traders and residents suffered significantly as a result of the action of a significant minority.
“We want to ensure we never again witness scenes like that again, but in order to succeed we also need to talk to the people involved and listen to their reasons for attacking police, looting shops and wrecking the community we love.”
