The iconic corner shop from the beloved British sitcom Open All Hours is up for auction - allowing fans to become the modern day Arkwright.

Prospective buyers can snap up the convenience store known as Arkwright's in the classic 70s show and turn it into their own retail shop much like the one that featured on TV.

The show ran from 1976 to 1985 using the exterior of the retail space on Lister Avenue in Doncaster, South Yorkshire, to feature as the corner shop in the UK comedy.

The BBC sitcom saw the late Ronnie Barker star as the stuttering shopkeeper Albert Arkwright alongside Sir David Jason - who was known as Granville the delivery boy prior to him stepping into Del Boy's shoes.

The commercial unit was home to Beautique hair salon and the sale also comes with two separate self contained flats directly above the business space.

The iconic filming location is said to bring in just under £17,000 per year when fully let and is located less than a mile away from Doncaster city centre.

Pugh Auctions said they property is an 'iconic' location in Doncaster and hope this will help attract plenty of bidders when it goes to auction on October 15 at a guide price of £150,000.

Auctioneer James Vandenbrook said the exterior of the retail unit was mainly used to film scenes and the buyer may be lucky enough to bag some Open All Hours 'mementos' with the sale.

James said: "It is quite a straightforward mixed use residential and commercial investment.

"The only angle is that it has been used in this series. All that aside, it's just a straightforward ground floor retail unit and two upper floor flats.

"I see it going to a mixed use investor that is just looking to put some money into property and get an investment back from what they're putting in.

"I think it being in the show will potentially help [it sells]. If nothing else it will help raise its profile and put it top of the pile.

"Fundamentally I just see it as a mixed-use investment. I think it will sell on this basis too.

"There are a few photos that are up in the retail unit on the walls that are little mementos from last time it was occupied.

"I can't say if these will come with the sale. Generally speaking, when a property goes to auction it is largely sold as seen and the condition you get it in is how it is left behind on the day of completion.

"They could potentially be included in the sale but I cannot guarantee this.

"I have covered the Doncaster patch for 15 or 20 years and it is definitely a known location.

"Everyone that is local to it will know Lister Avenue as being the set of Open All Hours.

"It's just an iconic known location because of the popularity of the show.

"It is a very small shop unit compared to what is shown on the show and was largely used for exterior and street scenes. I think anything internal was filmed in a studio elsewhere.

"I think it was literally just the shop front and the famous cluttered shop front that you see on the TV that it is famous for."
