Joe Cracknell was delighted to see his highest white-ball score help Middlesex end their Metro Bank One Day Cup campaign with a win.
Cracknell hit 87 off 65 balls, including 17 fours, as Middlesex cruised to a five-wicket victory over Yorkshire at Radlett.
And he admitted it felt good to convert a decent start into a bigger score - despite the disappointment of missing out on three figures after falling to a full toss from Jack Shutt.
"It’s something where I’ve been a bit frustrated with getting a couple of starts, a couple of 20 and 30s and a 60 and I’ve been wanting to push on a little bit and convert those starts into bigger scores," he said.
"It felt like it came off the middle from ball one. I didn’t get the milestone of the hundred I wanted but it is a step in the right direction.
"Of all the balls I could have got out to I wouldn’t have picked that one. I can’t take away from the good things I did before that."
Ryan Higgins (4-39), Blake Cullen (2-32) and Ethan Bamber (2-36) impressed with the ball as Yorkshire were dismissed for 253, before Cracknell and Mark Stoneman made a fast start in reply.
Cracknell played a series of drives square of the wicket as Middlesex reached 50 inside five overs, before Stoneman feathered one behind, before Sam Robson helped keep up the tempo.
The second-wicket pair brought up a century partnership in only 73 balls, as Robson reached his half-century from 40 deliveries, before Cracknell's exit left them 171-2 in the 20th over.
Higgins, Robson and Jack Davies also fell to off-spinner Shutt, who finished with a career-best 4-49, before John Simpson (29 not out) and Martin Andersson (33 not out) sealed only a second win in eight outings.
"We feel like we had a bit of a point to prove as we’ve underperformed in key moments and undersold ourselves with the results," added Cracknell.
"It’s a competition of what could have happened and key moments in a couple of tight games that have ultimately cost us.
"It’s a step on our white-ball journey and something we are always looking to be better at.
"I think until you’ve played here [Radlett] you don’t understand the nature of the ground. It does a little bit in the morning, it always nibbles, but you get such good value for shots.
"So, you might think 260-280, but once it dries out, comes onto the bat lovely and when you beat the infield it is four every time."
*North Middlesex moved eight points clear at the top of the Middlesex League Premier Division after beating Brondesbury in their summit meeting.
The hosts chose to bat, but saw Sabir Baharami dismissed for a third-ball duck by Midd skipper Joel Hughes.
And although Jay Madan (31) and Nathan Fernandes (59) helped them recover to reach 108-2, they were dismissed for 179 in the 41st over.
Hughes finished with 4-46, as Max Harris (3-41) also shone, but Wes Morrick reduced Midd to 14-2 in reply.
Jacob Miltz held firm as the visitors slipped to 80-4, putting on 48 with James Parslow before falling for 50 from 116 balls.
And after Midd wobbled to 134-7, Parslow (52 not out) added an unbroken 48 with Hugh Teesdale to seal victory in the 49th over.
Midd can clinch the title with a home win over relegated Twickenham in their penultimate match of the season this weekend.
Hornsey moved 17 points clear in Division One after beating Osterley by eight wickets, as North London lost by three wickets to Harrow Town.
But Hornsey lost their Conference Cup semi-final to newly-crowned Essex League champions Hornchurch by 87 runs on Sunday.
Selected fixtures, Middlesex League Premier: Finchley v Brondesbury, Hampstead v Crouch End; Div 1: Hornsey v Southgate, Winchmore Hill v North London; Div 2: Highgate v South Hampstead.
