Southgate Adelaide stormed to the top of Saracens Herts Division Four despite losing a fantastic game of cricket by just one run at the Walker Ground on Saturday.

Visitors Chipperfield Clarendon won the toss and elected to bat, but got off to a reasoanble start.

It wasn't until the introduction of Barbadian off spinner Dee Alleyne that wickets started to fall, and Adelaide's overseas player eventually ended up with 5-52.

With the bat, only Liam Kenna really got going and, when he was adjudged harshly lbw for 30, Adelaide were in trouble.

However, this side bats all the way down and Dan Fitzpatrick and Liam Farrell set about rebuilding the innings.

It was left to the last pair of Brian Cohen and Fitzpatrick, who required two to win off the last ball, but Cohen was run out leaving the West Herts side vicotrs by one run.

However, Adelaide did ensure that maximum points were gained from defeat to leave them top of the league. Fitzpatrick ended up unbeaten on 50 not out.
