ENFIELD & Haringey AC’s young cross-country international Shaun Collins has been chasing track times.
But he proved he is up with the best at any distance.
During the 800m at the Biggleswade Track Fest, Collins, more suited to much longer distances, still found that he was by far the fastest runner in the field, duly winning in 1:57.2min, a good 18 seconds in front of the second man and also shaving two seconds off his best time.
The 19-year-old then crossed London to Eltham for a British Milers Club 1500m race. Taking over the running after the designated pace maker dropped out at 800m, he pulled away to win by three seconds in a PB of 3:53.2min.
And Collins then made it a hat-trick in the BMC 1500m race at Parliament Hill Fields. Once again the pace makers fell short of the projected time at 800m, and Collins went it alone with 550m left to run, blitzing the final lap in 61 seconds for a five-second win in 3:56.1min.
