Torema Dorsett, Enfield & Haringey AC’s leading female sprinter, was Great Britain’s only representative at the 100m in the recent European Junior (U20) championships.
During the opening round at Novi Sad, Serbia, Torema placed second, running into a strong headwind measured at minus 2.2 metres per second. Her time of 11.84 made her the fifth fastest athlete in the heats.
Running slightly slower – 11.88, again into a headwind - in the semi-finals, Torema produced the eighth fastest time and progressed to the finals.
There, Torema was able to raise her game and came home seventh in 11.65, a mere eight one-hundredths of a second slower than her recent lifetime best of 11.57, a magnificent climax to a summer that has seen her return to form after a lacklustre – by her own exacting standards – 2008 season.
