People of all nations helped celebrate an Enfield-based football club's 20th anniversary.

The Dodo Club, founded in 1989 by Faz Hyda, held a football tournament in Broomfield Park, Palmers Green. The club have now grown to include a main team of 60 seniors, a junior academy of 20 players, and a Canadian subsidiary of 20. The team boasts a range of different nationalities, including Mauritian, Goan, Australian, Polish, Turkish and English. Players are aged 17 to 60, and play weekly in North London. The club’s ethos of football, family and friendship underpins all of their activities.

The football tournament saw the club split into five teams, each representing a Premier League side. The club’s largest ever event saw the teams battle it out in front of an audience of 200 – including families, friends, representatives from Tottenham Hotspur, local Enfield councillors, as well as members of the public.

Proceeds from the event are being donated to Enfield Terminal Cancer Hospice. The tense tournament culminated with the Arsenal team being crowned champions after a nail-biting final against Liverpool. The club’s academy team, with players aged between seven and 14, also played their Dodo Cup. This year the theme was France v Spain, with France edging it over their Spanish rivals.

Chairman and founder Faz Hyda said: "This year marks the 20th year since the Dodo Club was founded and we wanted to make the event extra special. Working with local businesses, Premier League football clubs and the local council, we made this year’s event our biggest and best ever, and were able to give something back to our local community through our charitable donation.

"Having started from a small team of only four members, the club has grown immensely and continues to go from strength to strength. Our annual Dodo Cup event is always a great opportunity for all our members’ friends and family to get together.”
