Enfield Town manager Jim Chandler has done a Mourinho'.

No, he hasn't splashed out £24 million, like the Chelsea boss did last summer, on an overrated striker; and no, he hasn't labelled himself The Special One'.

What Chandler has done is build a squad big enough to field virtually two separate teams and in pre-season that is exactly what he has been doing.

Indeed, the players have been performing so well that they are unbeaten in their three pre-season games so far. Admittedly, friendlies are never the most reliable indicators of form, but the manager says he cannot say which of the two teams is the better one.

"At the moment I've got two players for every position, so it's a bit like Jose Mourinho at Chelsea," joked Chandler, whose Enfield Town team are stepping up to Southern League Division One East this season after winning the Eastway Essex Senior League last year.

Despite being newly promoted, Chandler's team are among the favourites to win the league. "I believe we've been made third favourites behind Uxbridge, and Barking and East Ham United," he said. "Someone must know something about us, then but it all goes out of the window when you start playing."

That is not to say, however, that he does not have high hopes for the coming season. "We're all really looking forward to a good season," he said. "The better pitches in this division will help us and there will be bigger crowds I'd expect crowds of about 500 for home games, that would be the biggest in the league. I'll be happy with the play-offs."

In the wake of last Tuesday's away win at Conference South side Thurrock, Chandler was stung by the match report on Thurrock's official web site, which described his team as physical'.

"One hundred per cent I can say we only play football," he said. "We don't teach our players to be dirty. I've got a team full of people that can play."

In that respect, too, he and The Special One have something in common.
