TEN-MAN Enfield Town produced an incredible comeback to stun Waltham Forest and record their first win in seven league games at the weekend, writes Ross Davies.

With Jon Stevenson having been given his marching orders in controversial circumstances, Town fell two goals behind and seemed to be heading for defeat with just four minutes remaining.

But a Liam Hope penalty, followed by a header that found the target from Adam Wallace, drew the visitors level. A thrilling climax, in which Walid Matata scored a contender for goal of the season, ensured Enfield stole victory from the jaws of defeat; a result which keeps up their hopes of a play-off place in Ryman One North.

Town had dominated proceedings in the first half, with Dan Forward striking a post with the score goalless.

But Forest were given a boost when Stevenson was shown a straight red card for a tackle that was deemed to be dangerous by the referee, despite appearing to win the ball.

That gave the hosts the momentum to race in to what seemed an unassailable lead, with a cross that deceived Rob Blackburne flying into the net and ex-Towner Daniel Francis adding the second.

Another Goldsdown Road old boy, goalkeeper Jason Willis, then helped kick-start the comeback when he fouled Wallace in the box. Hope blasted home the spot-kick, before Wallace turned scorer with a precise header.

Wallace was again involved in the winner as time ticked down, his pass finding the run of Matata who sprinted clear to finish expertly, sparking jubilant scenes on the pitch.

The three points took Enfield up to 11th in the Ryman One North table and bucked a winless run stretching six games.

Promotion-chasing Romford make the trip to Goldsdown Road this Saturday.
