Steve Newing has issued a promotion challenge to his Enfield Town FC players for next season.
“We will be aiming to win the league,” the manager told Enfield Independent Sport.
“We want to build on the progress which I think we have made as a side this season, even though we did not get to the play-offs.”
Town finished the Ryman campaign in sixth place, one agonising spot off the play-offs.
“We should have finished comfortably in third place,” rued Newing.
“We were the second best defence in the league and the third best attack.
“It was disappointing without a doubt to miss out by one point, but there are a lot of positives," he insisted.
“Unfortunately, our home form let us down,” reflected Newing on where it went wrong.
“We finished where we did because we did not win enough home games.”
“It’s not good enough to lose eight at home and nine games by the odd goal.
“We ended four points behind Wingate and Finchley who took third place. We were 2-1 up over them, with 30 seconds to go it, but it went against us."
