IT was a bad weekend for Winchmore Hill Cricket Club as they were knocked out of the ECB National Club Championship and lost in the league in the space of two days.
Winchmore lost to Ealing by six wickets on Saturday and then by the same margin again the following day against South Woodford in the quarter final of the ECB National Club Championship Group 14.
The bowling of Woodford’s Garry Neicho and Simon Correya, who finished with figures of five for 24, meant Jim Gatting (32 not out) was the only Winchmore batsman who surpassed 20.
Openers Neil Hurst and Steve Gent hit 18 and 17 respectively before they were out and number six batsman Dave Alleyne also struck 17, but the tail-enders were all dismissed for a combined total of six as Hill were all out for 125 from 37.2 overs.
Hill bowler Danny Barker took the wickets of both Woodford openers for 15 and 30 and Dan Amedee dismissed number three batsman Ashley Leat for 0.
But the home side were relatively comfortable in reaching the required total as they lost just four wickets and needed 34.1 overs. Woodford’s Richard Browne finished on 40 not out.
Barker was the pick of the Hill bowlers as he ended with figures of two for 24 from his nine overs, with Sasha Selveratnum taking the other wicket, caught-and-bowled.
On the previous day, Winchmore had set a more competitive score of 184 all out but Ealing again only lost four wickets as they reached the required total.
Ealing’s Pat Fallis, who finished not out, hit 90 from 84 balls and Huw Jones struck 55 from 76 balls as Ealing reached 185 in 31.2 overs in the Middlesex Division One clash.
