Charlotte Dujardin is in pole position to add to Team GB’s gold medal tally after producing a stunning performance in the Olympic Games dressage in Greenwich Park this afternoon.
Riding Valegro, the Enfield-born rider delivered a fantastic score of 83.663 per cent – just a fraction below the world record of 84.08 per cent.
The display puts Dujardian, who now lives in Gloucestershire, more than four-and-a-half per cent clear of her nearest rivals – a very big lead in the context of the scores registered to date – and also strengthened Great Britain’s grip on the team competition.
With Barnet-born Carl Hester, who is Dujardin’s coach, lying in bronze medal position and Laura Bechtolsheimer two places further back, Team GB have a commanding advantage of almost six per cent over closest rivals Denmark.
The medals will be decided on Tuesday (team) and Thursday (individual).
