Team-mates Margaret Adeoye and Abi Oyepitan have both made it safely through to the semi finals of the Olympic 200m this evening.
The duo were in action at the Olympic Stadium in Stratford and both progressed with automatic qualifying places after finishing in the top three in their respective heats.
Running first in heat one, Adeoye clocked up an impressive personal best of 22.94 to book her passage through to the semi finals.
The Enfield & Haringey Athletic Club member finished third in the race behind Murielle Ahoure (22.55) of Ivory Coast and Russia’s Aleksandra Fedoriva (22.61).
Having failed to make the 100m final at the weekend, Oyepitan will be keen not to miss out in this event and made the perfect start when she clocked 22.92 in heat three.
That time saw the Shaftesbury Barnet Harrier take second place behind American Carmelita Jeter (22.65), while Jamaica’s Sherone Simpson (22.97) took the third and final automatic qualifying spot.
Fellow Brit Anyika Onuora was also in action but she narrowly missed out on a place in the semi finals.
Onuora was pipped to third place in heat two, running 23.23 to finish fourth but her time was not quick enough to see her advance as a fastest loser.
Oyepitan and Adeoye will return to the stadium tomorrow night for the semi finals.
